Ten Books I Wouldn't Mind Santa Leaving Under my Tree

Confession: I have absolutely no chill when it comes to books and pretty much buy all of them. Yup. I pretty much act as if I am made of money.  #IBuyBooksInsteadofOwningACar. Having said this I do have 582 (no exaggeration I just looked at Goodreads) books on my TBR pile. I still have books on my wishlist. These are mostly books that having a physical copy is important.  I pretty much read exclusively on my Kindle.  Because China.

Illustrated Harry Potter cover

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
by J.K. Rowling

GoodreadsAmazon
Series: Illustrated Harry Potter #2
Release date: October 4th 2016

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

Ermahgerd, Harry Potter!  I bought the first book when I was in the US this summer and it was amazing.  It was almost like having a brand new story.  The illustrations are gorgeous.

golden boy cover

Golden Boy
by Tara Sullivan

GoodreadsAmazon
Series: no
Release date: June 27th 2013

This is a story about am albino boy living in Tanzania.  I have had it on my list for a few years and I just haven't bought it.  Santa might have to intervene.

french milk cover

French Milk
By Lucy Krisley

GoodreadsAmazon
Series: no
Release date: September 5th 2007

I really enjoyed Lucy Krisley's Relish.  A combination of food and memoir in a graphic novel form really worked for me.  This time she is tackling a travelouge.  It is France so I am expecting much food.  Yum.

see no color cover

See No Color
by Shannon Gibney

GoodreadsAmazon
Series: no
Release date: November 1st 2015

This is a book about a black girl who was adopted by a white family and grows up playing baseball.  I have a feeling that there are going to be some profound and important aspects to this novel.

My name is jason cover

My Name Is Jason. Mine Too.: Our Story. Our Way.
By Jason Reynolds, Jason Griffin

GoodreadsAmazon
Series: no
Release date: April 21st 2009

This book just looks like fun and because there is an art aspect to it is not something that I would be happy with on the Kindle. It is a concept book of poetry and art by two collage roommates.

home of the brave cover.

Home of the Brave
By Katherine Applegate

GoodreadsAmazon
Series: no
Release date: August 21st 2007

“Today, tomorrow, sooner or later, you will meet someone who is lost, just as you yourself have been lost, and as you will be lost again someday. And when that happens, it is your duty to say "I've been lost, too. Let me help you find your way home.”

I have had good luck with Katherince Applegate.  I do however have an issue with the person who wrote the blurb of this book.  "Kek comes from Africa." Treating Africa as if it is one homogenous place make me crazy. Stop doing it! On the other hand the cover is beautiful and I am intrigued.

the boy who harnessed the wind

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope
By William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer

Goodreads Amazon
Series: no
Release date: September 29th 2009

“I went to sleep dreaming of Malawi, and all the things made possible when your dreams are powered by your heart.”

I am really intrigued by this book if for no other reason then because the publishers were smart enough to publish it with  three different reading levels.  Yay for inclusivity!

yes please cover

Yes Please
by Amy Poehler

Goodreads Amazon
Series: no
Release date: October 28th 2014

“However, if you do start crying in an argument and someone asks why, you can always say, 'I'm just crying because of how wrong you are.'”

Yes, I know that the rest of the world has already read this book.  And watched Parks and Recreation.  I am getting to it, okay?!

an edible history cover

An Edible History of Humanity
byTom Standage

GoodreadsAmazon
Series: no
Release date: May 19th 2009

“Spices were certainly regarded as antidotes to earthly squalor in another, more mystical sense. They were thought to be splinters of paradise that had found their way into the ordinary world.”

I like books that have food in them, okay?

creative lettering cover

Creative Lettering and Beyond: Inspiring tips, techniques, and ideas for hand lettering your way to beautiful works of art
By Walter Foster Creative Team

Goodreads | Amazon
Series: no
Release date: November 3rd 2014

This isn't at all universal but I have been trying to journal (fine, "art journal") and I am finding the my complete incompetence when it comes to anything artistic.  My theory is that books are the answer to everything.

What books are you hoping to get from Santa?
