Alternate title for this post: Why I am ashamed of myself and a plan of action of read more.

Here is a question that this weeks prompt has brought up.  Why do I procrastinate on things that I actually want to do? All of these are books that I want to read and have wanted to read but I have put of reading them for the most random of reasons.  Please tell me that this is a common phenomenon and I am not the only weirdo here.

Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow

Alexander Hamilton
By Ron Chernow

Goodreads | Amazon
Published: March 29, 2005
Series: No, but there is another book by Chernow about Washington.
Reason I didn’t read it: I actually started this book and it is quite entertaining and readable. I put it down because I wanted to read it in larger sections (more than 10 minutes at a time) because I felt as if I was rereading the same three pages over and over again as I tried to refresh my memory.
Why my interest is renewed: Hamilton! I am embarrassingly obsessed with the musical and want to read this by the end of June when I am going to NY. I have the audiobook now so maybe that will help?

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children By Random Riggs

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
By Random Riggs

Goodreads | Amazon
Published: June 7th, 2011
Series: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children #1
Reason I didn’t read it: I wanted a physical copy of the book because there are photos in it and getting books in English in China requires effort.  Basically, laziness.
Why my interest is renewed: My TBTB Santa just sent me a copy as part of my gift!
Update: read in January 2017

I do like this cover.

These Vicious Masks
By Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas

Goodreads | Amazon
Published: February 9th, 2016
Series: These Vicious Masks #1
Reason I didn’t read it: I forget that it existed.  These things happen.
Why my interest is renewed: Gillian from Writer of Wrongs just put it on her "Best of 2016" list and now I MUST read it.

I love this cover because you can just tell what the mood of the book is going to be. I assume.

Salt to the Sea
By Ruta Sepetys

Goodreads | Amazon
Published: February 2nd, 2016
Series:no
Reason I didn’t read it: I don't know.  I own it, I am looking forward to it, I keep putting it off. What is wrong with me?
Why my interest is renewed: I saw put Shades of Grey on my Lithuania book list and remembered that I really liked it and wanted to read this book.  I feel as if I should jazz that story up.  Boring!

Black Dove, White Raven By Elizabeth Wein

Black Dove, White Raven
By Elizabeth Wein

Goodreads | Amazon
Published: March 31st, 2015
Series: no
Reason I didn’t read it: I think I have been putting it off because it isn't part of the Verity series and I am slightly terrified that I won't like it and then my heart would break.  I hate having to pretend that books don't exist.
Why my interest is renewed: I recently reread both Verity books and I muat have more of Elizabeth Wein's writing.

I love the look on her face, "Yeah, you can watch while I Change the world."

The Mighty Miss Malone
By Christopher Paul Curtis

Goodreads | Amazon
Published: January 10th, 2012
Series: no
Reason I didn’t read it: Last time I checked, there was no kindle version.  We have discussed before that agony that is getting English books in China.  I couldn't possibly... and other dramatics.
Why my interest is renewed: Kindle version, baby! Excuse me while I happy dance.

Look, the Newberry Honor Award!

The Thief
By Megan Whalen Turner

Goodreads | Amazon
Published: December 27th, 2005
Series: The Queen's Thief #1
Reason I didn’t read it: I have owned this ENTIRE series and had it on my TBR since 2012.  I cannot even rememeber how I heard about it.  I know that somebody wrote something about it. Possible something with feminism?  (oh, yes, that is specific and helpful. *eyeroll) Holy crap, Tara read what you have and stop getting distracted by the shiny new stuff.  (But it's so shiny!)
Why my interest is renewed: MUST... DEFEAT... TBR...

The Night Circus By Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus
By Erin Morgenstern

Goodreads | Amazon
Published: September 13th, 2011
Series:no
Reason I didn’t read it: Perpetually not in the mood, I guess.
Why my interest is renewed: Everyone else on the planet seems to have read this and I will not be left behind!
Update: Full review of The Night Circus

The Survival Kit
By Donna Freitas

Goodreads | Amazon
Published: October 11th, 2011
Series: no
Reason I didn’t read it: I started it but I just wasn't feeling it and gave it up.  It was definitely a "me not you" thing because the writing is very good.
Why my interest is renewed: Time to give it another go in a different frame of mind.  Does anyone else find that they sometimes have to make a couple of runs at a book because you just were not in the right headspace for it?

Reading these books should of course be my top reading priority.  But are they? Let's see how many of them I continue to procrastinate on this year.  As I was writing this I started a book that came out today instead of any of these books.  I need an intervention...
